Abstract

Many times schedules are designed after projects have been layed out and details are forgotten. Revit offers a typical lighting schedule by manipulating just a few parameters. This allows for quicker details and more importantly less time spent on typing up data previously input into Revit.

Creating a Lighting Schedule using Revit MEP can be easy and quick. A lighting schedule typically contains the following components.

Type
  • Description
  • Lamp Code
  • Manufacturer
  • Catalog Number
  • Total Watts

In order to create this in Revit, a simple understanding of types is required. Once all of the fixtures are inserted, select one of each fixture for the following modifications.

Select the fixture > Element Properties > Type

In this menu, modify the property “Type Mark”. Use a letter to denote each different type of fixture. Other features such as manufacturer or lamp can also be set in this window, or set at a later time.

Close out of the type window and the element property window.

Analyze Tab> Schedule

Select the “Lighting Fixtures” option, change the name as needed, and leave the default of “Schedule Building Components”.

Under the Fields Tab, select the following categories:
  • Type Mark
  • Description
  • Lamp
  • Manufacturer
  • Model
  • Wattage

Before selecting OK, change to the Sorting/Grouping Tab.

Select first “Sort By:” to Type Mark. Check that the sorting will be done in an Ascending manner. Remove the check box for “Itemize Every Instance” at the bottom of the window.

Once OK is selected, the lighting schedule should appear. Each fixture type should only appear once. From this window, properties can be quickly input or updated, such as lamp, manufacturer, or description.
